FLASHES OF REFLECTION AW/23
ISABELLA’S AW/23 COLLECTION EXPLORES HOW FOLDS OF METAL AND ENAMELLED FABRIC ACT AS A VISUAL MEMORY OF MOVEMENT, REFLECTING AND DISTORTING THE BODY TO EXAMINE HOW WE ACT AS OUR OWN PERSONAL LENS.
DRAWING ON INSPIRATION FROM WORKS SUCH AS J.D.BALLARD’S CRASH, YRJO EDELMAN, AND GIBSON GIRL SILHOUETTES, THE COLLECTION USES A COMBINATION OF MOVEMENT AND STRUCTURE TO CREATE A NEW SENSE OF DYNAMISM.
DRAPED FOLDS NOT ONLY EVOKE FLUIDITY BUT ARE ALSO SUSPENDED MOMENTS IN TIME, ACTING AS A PROTECTIVE SHELL THROUGH CORSETS AND TAILORING. CONTRASTED WITH ELONGATED FLOWING SILHOUETTES, THE COLLECTION IS ENVELOPED IN PRINTS THAT ACT AS HAZES OF COLOUR, ELICITING SMALL FRAGMENTS AND MEMORIES THROUGH ECHOES AND TRANSPARENCIES.
